This thing has taken our enjoyment of TV to a whole other level. Phenomenal.

Some things to know before you buy...You are at the mercy of Windows Media Center software which is great in so many ways but has it's downsides.

Downside 1...Hardware upgrades. I tried upgrading my RAM to 16GB(two sticks of the same exact kind) and it locked me out from being able to see my pre-recorded premium content. Couldn't see the channels either. Would have lost it all unless I reverted back to the 8GB RAM which I did. Video card hardware switches are OK but now I wonder if I add a hard drive will this happen? This is protection in the software so that shows can't be watched on multiple computers but just a simple RAM upgrade?

Downside 2...Can't stream or watch in any way premium content on other computers. You can watch regular shows but not premium shows from HBO, Starz, etc.

Cable companies have to provide Cable Card self install kits now so we got that but couldn't get it to work after a couple hours on the phone with them. I got a tech to come out for free and it took him two hours to get it going. My install of the card was fine but they had some back end issues. Since then we have returned the Comcast DVR and have never been happier. Thanks Ceton for a great product and Maximum PC for telling me about it! (I really should resubscribe to them)

First, a little background. I am at war with Comcast. After years of systematically ripping me off, I was tired of the poor service, high prices, and overall painful customer experiences. They have driven me to the point that I have been cranking out HTPC's for my home to replace every comcast service that I can take away from them. Sure, so I spent a couple thousand to take away needing to pay comcast a couple 100 a month, but in this war, my fury knows no bounds.

With comcast, I get free basic cable through my HOA. So all I had to pay for was the set top boxes and any premium channels. The first cablecard is free and a 2nd is $1.50 per month. I originally purchased an HD Homerun Prime to stream TV throughout my home network. I ran into so many issues trying to get it installed, that I lost all confidence that I could use it reliably to record/watch my TV. Looking as though I was on the verge of defeat at the hands of Comcast once again, I ran across this card. $300 seemed a little steep for something I wasnt sure was going to work. Based on the other reviews, I decided to give it a shot. After all, comcast had me on my heels and desperate times called for desperate.....you get the point.

Card arrived. Popped it into my HTPC, I was up and running in less than 10 minutes and havent looked back since. The absolute key to the success of this card is directly attributed to the diagnostics application that is included. This diagnostics application makes it impossible for Comcast to mess up the provisioning and activation of the cablecard. I believe that this was the main reason for why I couldnt get the HD prime to work correctly. If the diagnostic app gives you all green check marks, you are good to go. If not, you can tell them how stupid they are, and exactly what they did wrong.

I have been waiting a little while to see if my luck with this card would come crashing down is a big pile of HTPC mess. I am very happy to report that I have not had a single issue with this masterful device since I installed it.

I am now winning my personal war with Comcast thanks to this wonderful device. My cable bill has gone from $219 per month (at its peak), to $1.50 per month + tax (take that comcast). I ended up keeping the HD prime to use the 3 extra turners. I have the most confidence in the Ceton card, so I use it exclusivity in my main HTPC where I watch the majority of my TV and record shows. Not only do I get HD on all my TV's with this setup, but I can record more programs (at the same time), hold more recordings than the comcast DVR could, store the (non-copy protected) recorded TV to my media server for future viewing (if desired), and because I am diligent about calling comcast to get premium channel promotions every 3 months, I get more premium channels then I ever did before, at no additional cost.

As you can probably tell, I couldnt be happier with this card. Based on the monthly savings, I figure the break even of all the HTPC builds, the HD prime, and this card is somewhere between 8-12 months. Beyond that, it should be gravy. Best of all, I am taking money out of Comcast's pockets, and getting a ton more features. Its been a lot of up front time and investment, but I finally feel as though I am winning the war against comcast.

If you are looking to do the same, I highly, highly recommend purchasing this device.

This tuner is worth every penny (even if it is a little high in price). I've been using it for 4 months now and I get awesome digital video and HD video from my cable provider! Better yet, I no longer have to worry about prioritising shows and picking what to record. Instead I can record up to 4 channels at once with GREAT clarity!

The only drawback to the card isn't a problem with the product at all, but is instead an issue with CableCard technology. Comcast, my local cable provider, tries to make switching from their digital boxes to a cable card impossible. I spent over a month and a half talkign to them on the phone for at least an hour every day to two days repeating the same steps over and over befor I finaly accidentaly got someone who could support this. They don't like you having control of the device and they make it nearly impossible to get it working. Just remember, your right to use a CableCard device like this is protected by Federal Law, so don't let them talk you out of it! In the end, it has been worth it all!
